DEPARTMENT OF DRAVYAGUNA

Dravyaguna is fundamental branch of Ayurvedic Science. It gives the
knowledge of properties, actions and therapeutic uses of plants (medicinal and
dietary plants) and animal products.
Dravyaguna is nothing but the ayurvedic pharmacology of plant & animal
based Substances. Draya means Substance and Guna means qualities with
respect to Rasa (taste), Vipak (biproduct/ taste), Virya (Potency) Guna (physical
characteristics) and Prabhav (specific effects) these are basic information needs
to disintegrate or distruct the pathology of a disease. Department is developed
as per NCISM MSR like Herbal garden, Laboratory, Museum, Demostration
Room. Herbal Garden is fulfilled with minimum 250 species and 327 total
plants. It contains routine and endangered medicinal plants, museum contains
dry and wet specimens, charts and models. Department is having well qualified
teaching and non teaching staff.
Vision and mission of Department is to develop each and every
undergraduate student capable in identification of plants, laboratorical analysis
of crude drug materials. Also to propogate the knowledge of every medicinal
plants knowledge amongst society through various plantation programs.
Dravyaguna is also referred as “Indian material medica”. Dravyaguna
consist of seven basic aspects i.e. Dravya (Drug), Rasa (Taste), Guna
(Properties), Virya (Potency), Vipak (Bio transformation), Karma (action) &
Prabhav (Specific action).
Museum : Herbal drug Museum of this department is fulfilled with more
than 150 dry specimens & 50 wet specimens and 100 Informative Charts.
Laboratory : Department has Well equipped laboratory with advanced
equipment’s & instruments for pharmacognostical practicals.
